Title: Computational Prediction of Functional Modules and Their Regulatory Networks in Microbial Organisms

Abstract: In this talk, I will present our recent work on computational prediction of biological networks in microbial organisms. I will discuss a number of computational techniques that we have been developing in the past few years, including prediction of operon/regulon structures, prediction of molecular interactions, and mapping of pathways/networks across microbial genomes, identification of functional modules through comparative genome analysis, in support of our network prediction work. I will also discuss the challenging issues we are facing in terms of developing more effective computational tools and getting experimental data. I will then demonstrate how these tools have been used in support of elucidation of a few networks in cyanobacteria, including phosphorous assimilation network, carbon fixation network and nitrogen assimilation network and its crosstalk network with photosynthesis.

1. function prediction via cooccurrence, coevolution, functional-linkage(GO) 2. homolog mapping improvement via operon 3. structure-based TF relationship prediction
