(03-17-05) structural genomics

On the recent science journal(around 03-02-05), several papers are talking about the protein structure initiative(PIS) advanced by NIH. The objective is to to acquire structures from representatives of each family in the hope that this will enable computer modelers to predict the structure of other family members. The first phase(technology developmentl phase) has almost finished. It's going to the production phase(another 5 years).

It is expected taht five years later, structure prediction accuracy will be greatly improved. What can we do with so many structures? Interaction is the first point. Structure changes during a protein's lifespan. Dynamic combinations of interactions (one protein can have several interactions but not simultaneously). Time series. System comes into alive and modeling...

Network era might really come. Lots of theoretical tools will be used to analyze the outcomes of the network. Complexity is the first choice.
